FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Join Us for the Taking Flight Pitch Competition – A Celebration of Black Women Entrepreneurs in Contra Costa County!
Contra Costa County, CA – The Taking Flight Pitch Competition, hosted by the Equity for Black Women & Girls initiative, is set to empower, uplift, and showcase the resilience and innovation of Black women entrepreneurs in our community. On Saturday, December 7th, from 10AM-4PM at CoBiz Richmond (1503 Macdonald Ave., Richmond CA), these dynamic businesswomen will pitch their business ideas in a “Shark Tank”- style competition, where everyone receives support, guidance, and access to funding to help them soar.
The Taking Flight Pitch Competition celebrates the achievements of participants in the Sistas SOAR (Success Opportunities Apprenticeship Resilience) program, a 24-week incubator powered by partnerships with Chase Minority Business and Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center. During this intensive program, participants engaged in workshops, gained valuable skills, and prepared their businesses for success. This year, thanks to an expanded curriculum that includes branding, we anticipate doubling the number of Black women-owned businesses we support.
Last year’s inaugural Sistas SOAR event awarded $1,000 to each of our 14 participants, with additional prizes of $5,000 for first place, $3,500 for second place, and $2,000 for third place.
This year, we aim even higher! We will have over 20 participants in our contest on December 7th, join us in supporting our 20 newest Contra Costa entrepreneurs! Our mission is to ensure Black women and girls are seen, heard, valued, and served in Contra Costa County, and we invite the media and community to join us in celebrating these incredible entrepreneurs as they take flight.
