Free Tax Prep Manager

Theresa Kula, our dedicated Tax Prep Manager, oversees SparkPoint CC’s only year-round Free Tax Prep site in Contra Costa County. She is uniquely trusted by the IRS to handle Individual Taxpayer Identification Number applications in both Contra Costa and Solano Counties. Thanks to Theresa’s hard work, SparkPoint CC’s Free Tax Prep site is the county’s sole location where foreign students and staff can file their taxes. Her efforts have returned nearly $1,000,000 to the community in just the past tax season.

Raised in Vallejo, Theresa moved to Pittsburg in 2000 with her husband and newborn daughter. In 2004, she successfully completed the Opportunity Junction Computer Training Program. Before her current role, Theresa was a private caregiver, enjoying the opportunity to care for her clients.

In December 2012, Theresa joined Bay Point Works-SparkPoint through the Work Employment Contra Costa Program. Initially, she assisted the Coordinator with IRS-VITA tax filings. After passing the beginning and intermediate IRS tax tests, she quickly took on more responsibilities. When her time with the WEX program ended, she was hired by Bay Point Works-SparkPoint to be the VITA Site Coordinator, running a year-round site. Passionate about helping people, she loves offering this free service to the community. Theresa is now furthering her education by pursuing a degree in Business Management at Los Medanos College.
